Another Chris Davis?
Olt’s name came up several times in trade talks but Texas did not want to part with him. Now the Rangers may have lost out. Before this spring his trade value was high but it’s obviously gone down after he hit below .200 in the Cactus League. Consider the fact that Adrian Beltre is still here for a couple of more years and Joey Gallo will also be waiting in the wings in a couple of years then you would think that moving Olt wouldn’t hurt too much.
Julio Borbon has had a great spring but he has no more options left. I would propose that a deal that involved both Olt and Borbon could net a nice return for the Rangers if they were willing to do so. The only thing that bothers me is the fact that Texas values Olt to the point that they‘re probably looking back at the Chris Davis/Mitch Moreland situation at first and wishing that they held on to Davis. I would’ve preferred Davis because I think Moreland is who he is and won’t get any better.
Hanging onto Olt may turn out to be one of the few mistakes that Jon Daniels has made as GM but only time will tell. I pray it works out for the best whether Olt starts or brings us some other talent.
